CORE ACTIVITIES OF THE FOUNDATION

The foundation will be involved in the following activities:

For Dental Care

  1. Organizing yearly oral health outreach programme to address issues related to dental care and provide treatment where necessary.
  2. Presenting useful and related information with audiovisual and computer based supports such as slides and projectors, videos, posters, and pictures.
  3. Distributing dental care products (toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, etc) to the participants. This is expected to be an annual event.

For Health Care

  1. Providing basic medical equipment for conducting health evaluation like blood pressure and blood sugar test equipment, thermometer, weight measuring scale, among others.
  2. Partnering with government owned medical centres and hospitals close to the community where the foundation is situated for acceptance of referrals from the foundation.
  3. Inviting the services of a qualified medical doctor either by employment, consultancy, or partnership to take care of health related issues.
  4. Inviting the services of a registered nurse or a well trained auxiliary nurse to probably take vital sciences, ask useful questions, counsel, and make referrals to health centres or hospitals (partners).
  5. Providing intervention drugs at the PNFE centre as prescribed by the medical doctor.
  6. Providing a communication gadget which could be office telephone or mobile phone for quick and easy communication.

For Vocational Intervention

  1. Partnering with existing training centres irrespective of their locations.
  2. Conducting critical vocational counseling on the expected participants to determine the intervention type and level.
  3. Providing training paths to the participants in the areas of their needs and interest which could be plumbing, electrical, baking, cookery, food processing, building, tailoring, hair dressing, auto mechanical, building, barbing, and many others.
  4. Paying for the cost of training to the trainers and not to the beneficiaries.
  5. Monitoring the beneficiaries’ progress by using on-the-spot checking, log book method, progress reporting by the beneficiaries, etc.
  6. Providing start up packages to beneficiaries who successfully complete the training. The packages will be determined by the Foundation according to the vocation.

For Educational Intervention

  1. Organizing yearly career counseling programme for students in Junior Secondary 3 (JS3), Senior Secondary 2 (SS2), and Senior Secondary 3 (SS3). The time for the event will depend on the school calendar. Announcement for the programme will be done in churches, schools, and by the village council through town criers and other means of communication.
  2. Providing scholarships to less privileged but brilliant students in tertiary institutions who face difficulties in paying fees and may be at the verge of dropping out of school. One of the ways of determining such students is by contacting the Registrar/Rector/Provost of various higher institutions in Akwa Ibom State and beyond to identify the students who applied for deferment of admission or suspension of studies.
  3. Organizing qualifying exams for such group of students. The successful students will benefit from the intervention. The amount involved will depend on fee schedule of the institutions and duration (semester, session or more) will be determined by the Foundation.
  4. Establishing a functional library within the environment where the Foundation situates. The library collection should be mostly primary/secondary school textbooks, literary/science fiction, examination past questions booklets, magazines, newspapers, manuals, etc. The library should search and provide on time information on educational adverts – admission into higher institutions, scholarship opportunities, government intervention programmes e.g loans, grants, trainings, immunizations, etc, job vacancies, government agencies and their contacts – NDLEA, NAPTIP, NAFDAC, Nigeria Police, among others. The library should also have access to Internet.

For Agriculture (Farming) Intervention

  1. Creating awareness of innovative practices for farming – crop farming, fish farming, snail farming, poultry, mushroom farming, rearing of pigs, goats, etc.
  2. Providing useful links to where they can get improved species of chosen animal or crop.
  3. Providing information on preservation methods, packaging methods, distribution/marketing channels, and requirements for importation/exportation, among others.
  4. Organizing excursion to Research Institutes, successful farm projects, etc within and beyond the state.
  5. Recording the excursion exercise and re-packaging the excursion activities (contents) into formats and language for the benefit of the illiterate participants.
